Villagers of Punjab swapped tractors as a mode of travel of buses, trains for Delhi.

On the call given by BKU Ugrahan, another batch of farmers started for Tikri Seema. However, this time, he was seen moving in buses instead of a convoy of tractors. The change has come since the January 26 episode. On Friday, villagers from more than 700 villages in 15 districts of Punjab visited the Tikri border. One batch went by bus on Friday morning, while another batch went from Ferozepur to Punjab by mail, making trains also stopping at Faridkot, Bathinda and Mansa. “They were in the thousands, we cannot give an accurate count”, said Sukhdev Singh Kokarkalan, General Secretary BKU Ugrahan. Talking with the Indian Express, Sukhdev Singh Kokarikalan said, “The farmers are going to be a part of Guru Ravidas Jayanti on Saturday and to celebrate the martyrdom day of freedom fighter Chander Shekhar Azad.” Regarding the changed mode of transport, he said, “People above 50 years of age feel inconvenienced while going in tractor-trolleys and hence we have changed the mode of transport to buses / vans. Some tractors are still going. Youngsters still prefer to go through tractors, but already, many tractors are also parked at the picket site. Furthermore, it seems to be a long haul against agricultural laws and hence, we are now spending money on transport, though each village unit has sufficient funds. “Earlier, many people were sponsoring fuel for the tractor, many others were giving their buses for free and the farmers only had to bear the fuel costs. But now the number of vehicles on fuel only has come down and keeping in mind the summer ahead, farmers unions are spending money judiciously. Farmers are scheduled to have another program for Women’s Day on 8 March when women are expected to visit the borders in large numbers. Sources said that after the January 26 episode, the farmers unions have become extra cautious. Union leaders indicated that many anti-social elements may join tractor riders on the pretext of seeking lift. “Farmers sometimes stop along the way and so the convoy breaks down. Road accidents can also occur due to tractor-trolleys. So now there are many reasons to take fewer tractors towards Delhi. On Friday night, a group of farmers left for Bahadurgarh via Punjab Mail, which started from Ferozepur and the farmers also marched from Bathinda and Mansa, Faridkot on this route. Gora Singh of Mansa district said, “We need to carry milk along, so the train suits us more.” Along with the Youngsters, the elderly were also going on in equal numbers. Responding to Lakha Sidhana’s appeal to start going towards the borders to support Kishan unions, he said, “What can we say about him if he is confident about the youth who are supporting him Huh. They can very well organize a dharna on any border of Delhi. I do not want to go too far into his statements. All unions are on one platform on the issue of agricultural laws and so are the people. “Sources said that Delhi Police has sent notices to many villagers on Republic Day after locking their tractors in the national capital. Although the leaders of the farmers union have asked the villagers to tear down these notices, sources said that this could be another reason to carry fewer tractors towards the Delhi borders. .
