A bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar rejected the petition filed by the UPSC civil service candidates requesting another chance for students who lost their last chance of civil service examination in October 2020 due to global epidemic. it was done. These candidates had cited difficulties in the preparation of the examination due to epidemic in the petition.

The Center had told the apex court on February 9 that it was against the relaxation in age limit for the candidates including the students who lost their last chance. Giving another chance to such students this year will discriminate against other candidates.

General category students can appear for UPSC Civil Services six times till the age of 32, OBC category students nine times till the age of 35 and SC and ST students as many times as they want till the age of 37. can give.

The center was initially not in favor of being given an extra chance, but later did so at the suggestion of the bench.

She said on February 5 that students who used their last chance of examination in 2020, will get another chance this year provided they meet the age limit. Peeth, however, dismissed the petition of Rachna and others on Wednesday.

During the hearing, the Center had given detailed information to the court regarding the exemption given by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) since the commencement of the Civil Services Examination in the country and told that the changes in the examination pattern in the years 1979, 1992 and 2015 The reason was that candidates were exempted.

On 30 September last year, the apex court also refused to accept a request to postpone the UPSC Civil Services preliminary examination due to floods in several parts of the country and the Kovid-19 epidemic.
