23 February (talk) Six people died due to explosions in gelatin sticks kept in a stone mine in Chikballapur district of Karnataka late on Monday night.
Police said on Tuesday that some people were trying to destroy the gelatin sticks when they exploded.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the incident. He said that he was saddened by the deaths due to the explosion and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. He wished the injured to get well soon.
Health Minister of Karnataka K.K. Sudhakar visited the scene and said that the bodies of the dead were badly scattered and scattered all around. According to police, the incident took place in Hirenagavalli near Peresandra.
Significantly, a similar explosion took place on 22 January when a truck carrying gelatin exploded in Hanasodu village of Shivamogga. Six people died in this blast too.
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has assured strict action against the culprits. He said, “The death of six people due to the gelatin explosion near Hirenagavalli village in Chikballapur is shocking.” He directed the district in-charge minister and senior officials to conduct a thorough investigation and take strict action against the culprits.
