A Delhi court on Monday sent climate activist Disha Ravi to one day police custody in the Greta Thunberg toolkit case. The Patiala House Court has rejected Delhi Police’s request for five-day custody of 22 years. Seeking an extension of five days of Ravi’s police custody, the public prosecutor had argued that the activist was defiant during the interrogation and shifted the blame on co-accused Shantanu Muluk and Nicolan Jacob. Earlier on Friday, the trial court sent Ravi to judicial custody for three days after his five-day police custody period ended. During the hearing on Ravi’s bail plea on Saturday, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the Delhi Police, had told the court that hyperlinks in the toolkit linked people to Khalistani websites that propagated hatred towards India. “It was not just a toolkit. The real plan was to discredit India and create unrest here. Opposing Ravi’s bail plea, the police alleged that she was preparing a toolkit with Khalistan advocates. It alleged that Ravi erased WhatsApp chats, emails and other evidence and knew of legal action that he could face. Responding to the allegations, climate activist advocate Siddharth Aggarwal told a Delhi court that “if the farmers’ protest is exposed globally, it is treason.” Ravi’s lawyer further claimed that there is no evidence linking the toolkit to the violence during the Kisan March on 26 January. He also questioned the contents of the FIR. “We all have different opinions. You may have problems with farmers’ opposition, I cannot. If the protest is exposed globally, I (Ravi) is in jail. I (defense lawyer) also support the farmers. But if it is a crime, then everyone should go to jail, ”said defense lawyer Siddharth Aggarwal. The Delhi Police had argued that the 22-year-old should be thoroughly investigated as “she was aware of the criminality of her actions”. Police told the court that the investigation would reveal a “sinister design to discredit India”. The court reserved the order for 23 February on the bail plea of Disa. Additional Sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana, during the hearing of Ravi’s plea, raised some sharp questions to the investigating agency, asking if it was only working on “Surmison, Conference and Concept”. “And questioned how the toolkit was related to the violence during the farmers’ march. “… Until I satisfy my conscience, I do not move forward,” the judge said. Ravi was arrested by a cyber cell team of Delhi Police on Saturday from Bangalore in connection with a toolkit supporting the farmers’ movement. Police claimed to have sent the toolkit to Thunberg via the Telegram app, and also “persuaded him to act on it”. The Delhi Police has alleged that Ravi was the “key conspirator” in the creation and dissemination of the document and he collaborated with the Khalistani group Poetic Justice Foundation to “spread dissent against the Indian state” and also shared the dock with Thunberg. .
