According to Gadkari, “In 2019, we made a rule that cars will come with company-fitted number plates. So, the vehicles that have arrived in the last four years have different number plates. However, there is a problem. There is no provision under the law for a vehicle owner who leaves the toll plaza and does not pay. We need to bring that provision within the ambit of law.

For this we have to bring a bill.” It is to be noted that, as per the data provided by the government, till now about 97% of the total collection on toll in the country is through FASTags which comes to around Rs 40,000 crore and the remaining 3%. According to government data, 112 vehicles pass through the manual toll collection lane every hour. In comparison, more than 260 vehicles pass through the electronic toll collection lane every hour by paying toll.
