Toll plazas will be eliminated from the whole country, this statement is absolutely true. Since 2014, the ministry whose work in the Modi government was at the top was the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, which is headed by Nitin Jairam Gadkari. In PM Modi’s cabinet, almost every big face was seen changing, the ministry was seen changing from here to there, but a leader who was given the same ministry as it was, it was the same ministry of Nitin Gadkari.
After making radical changes in the highways to reach big highways from villages, now Gadkari’s next pilot project is one that will save the time of the public. In fact, the Government of India is planning to remove toll plazas on national highways across India and collect toll tax through automatic number plate reader cameras, which will read vehicle number plates and automatically transfer them from the linked bank accounts of vehicle owners. Will deduct toll from This is to say of the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari himself.
According to Gadkari, “In 2019, we made a rule that cars will come with company-fitted number plates. So, the vehicles that have arrived in the last four years have different number plates. Now there is a plan to remove toll plazas and install cameras. Who will read these number plates and toll will be deducted directly from the account. We are also piloting this scheme. However, there is a problem. There is no provision under the law for a vehicle owner who leaves the toll plaza and does not pay. We need to bring that provision within the ambit of law.
We may bring a provision for cars which do not have these number plates, to have them installed within a certain period. For this we have to bring a bill.” It is to be noted that, as per the data provided by the government, till now about 97% of the total collection on toll in the country is through FASTags which comes to around Rs 40,000 crore and the remaining 3%. Pays higher than normal toll rates for not using FASTags. It takes approximately 47 seconds per vehicle to cross a toll plaza with FASTag.
According to government data, 112 vehicles pass through the manual toll collection lane every hour. In comparison, more than 260 vehicles pass through the electronic toll collection lane every hour by paying toll. The use of Automatic Number Plate Reader-ANPR cameras or Number Plate Reader Cameras is expected to further reduce congestion at toll plazas. But a lot will depend on the implementation of the system. But the truth is that everything has to be started, it is necessary to lay the foundation. In such a situation, Nitin Gadkari takes his breath by fulfilling whatever he is determined to do, it has always been known to everyone. Now only time will tell what charisma the new form of modernity creates and how influential it becomes to become a participant in India’s transformation journey.
