The election bugle has sounded in Goa. TMC’s expectation in Goa is based on three comprehensive calculations. State has substantial minority population, small constituency and political space beyond BJP and Congress. The minority population in Goa is over 32%, of whom 25% are Christians and a little over 8% are Muslims. In the last Goa election, the margin of victory in about 30% of the seats or 11 assembly constituencies was less than 1,500 votes. In terms of overall election results, local parties and independents won 25% of the seats.
In such a situation, if TMC thinks that it will get the vote of Christians, then it is not because in South Goa, which is a Congress stronghold, only minority votes will be divided due to the presence of TMC there. Hindus, Christians and Muslims constitute 66, 26 and 8.33 per cent of the state’s population respectively. Of the 27 BJP MLAs, 15 are Catholic. Of these, eight are former Congress MLAs who have won from South Goa. The Christian community will vote for the BJP because of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act shelving and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to Pope Francis to visit India. quite likely.
The politics of Muslim appeasement in Goa will destroy TMC. The people of Goa are also aware of TMC’s politics of Islamic bigotry and Muslim appeasement. The people of Goa know that in the wake of the politics of Muslim appeasement, TMC does not delay in sacrificing national interest and regional identity. TMC has already given an example of this by settling Rohingya Muslims in Bengal. Therefore, he will never go in favor of TMC. On 29 October 2021, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee started her Goa election journey. But till now TMC has neither a leader with a mass base nor a charismatic and effective face.
TMC is also fighting Goa elections only in the name of anti-Modi and appeasement. It is also ridiculous to call Mamta an election face because she is not a national but a regional leader. Therefore, it is unlikely that the people of Goa should vote in the name of a regional Bengali leader. Nafisa Ali has been included in the party. But, TMC must remember that in the last election the margin of victory was less than 1,500 votes in almost 30% of the seats or 11 assembly constituencies.
In terms of overall election results, 25% of the seats were won by local parties and independent candidates. Mamta is making the mistake of mistaking Goa as Bengal, where the public chooses an actor in the name of a leader. Seeing this, TMC does not have any impressive candidate in Goa’s cutthroat political competition. Luizinho Faleiro, on the other hand, is one of Goa’s most unpopular politicians and will lose outrightly if he contests. Hence, TMC has been knocking on the doors of people from many other walks of life, some of them ridiculous, like musician Lucky Ali. From above, Lucky Ali also turned down TMC’s offer.
