Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government have a zero tolerance policy against corruption. Under this, while the Modi government has tried to close all the avenues of corruption, the money sent by the central government through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme has started reaching directly into the hands of the needy. This is helping to save a huge amount of money. Since 2014 till now, more than Rs 2.2 lakh crore has been saved due to this scheme.

According to the Modi government, when the corona epidemic was spread during the last financial year (April 2020 to March 2021), at that time also there was a savings of about 45 thousand crore rupees due to DBT. This achievement was achieved by minimizing any leakages in government schemes, weeding out fake or non-existing beneficiaries of government schemes and sending money to Aadhaar linked bank accounts of genuine beneficiaries. It is to be noted that DBT was started in 43 districts on January 1, 2013.

Under this, 27 schemes were included. This was followed by the expansion of DBT across the country on 12 December 2014. Today, 310 schemes of 54 Ministries and Departments of the Central Government have been brought under the purview of DBT. A total of 57.8 crore beneficiaries have got benefits in cash and 83.3 crore in kind under DBT so far. JAM (Jan Dhan, Aadhar and Mobile) has an important role in making DBT effective and useful.

By March 2021, savings in various schemes, Rs 10 thousand crore were saved in fertilizer subsidy. 34 thousand crore rupees were saved in the MNREGA scheme. It is estimated that 10 percent savings in MGNREGA wages. 11 crore fake and inactive LPG connections ended. 73 thousand crore rupees were saved in the Pahal scheme. 3.99 crore fake beneficiaries caught under PDS. 1 lakh crore saved under PDS.
