Family parties are a matter of concern for those who believe in democracy: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a program organized on the occasion of Constitution Day in Parliament on 26 November, said that India is moving towards a kind of crisis in the form of family based parties. “India is heading towards a crisis which is a matter of concern for those devoted to the Constitution, a matter of concern for those who believe in democracy and that is family parties,” he said. The Prime Minister said, “More than one person may go from a family on the basis of merit, it does not make the party feminist.
The problem comes when a party is run from generation to generation by the same family.” He said that the spirit of the Constitution has also been hurt, every section of the Constitution has also been hurt, when political parties themselves lose their democratic character. Mr Modi questioned, “How can parties which have lost their democratic character, protect democracy.” The Prime Minister also cautioned against the tendency to forget and glorify guilty corrupt people.
He said that we should avoid glorifying such people in public life while giving them an opportunity to reform. He said that Mahatma Gandhi had tried to prepare for the duties, even while fighting for the rights in the freedom movement. He concluded by saying, “It would have been better if the duty had been emphasized after the country became independent. In the nectar festival of freedom, it is necessary for us to move forward on the path of duty so that our rights are protected.
The program, organized in the Central Hall of Parliament House, was addressed by the President, Vice President, Prime Minister and Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi said that today is the day to pay tribute to the long-sighted great men like Babasaheb Ambedkar, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Bapu and all those who sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle. Today is the day to salute this House. The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the martyrs of 26/11.
Prime Minister Modi said that our Constitution is not just a collection of many Articles, our Constitution is a great tradition of millennia, Akhand Dhara is the modern expression of that Section. He said that this Constitution Day should also be celebrated because it gives us an opportunity to evaluate whether our path is right or not.
