The Noida administration has initiated National Security Act (NSA) proceedings against a person accused of black marketing of essential COVID medicines. According to the Noida Police, accused Rachit Ghai was arrested in April for selling fake Remdesivir injections. The drug was being sold to needy families as it was prescribed by hospitals as a life-saving drug. The arrest was made by the Noida crime branch and a case was registered at Sector 20 police station. “The accused Rachit Ghai was arrested for selling remdesivir injection at a price higher than the market rate. Further investigation revealed that the injections were fake. The nature of the offense is such that it endangers the lives of ordinary citizens, due to which NSA proceedings have been initiated, A Sector 20 police officer said. Police said that Rachit had seized over 100 vials of Remdesivir through illegal channels.
The accused contacted the families of the patients through WhatsApp and offered them direct supply of medicine which was in high demand in April. Police said he had also posted messages on the availability of the injections on Facebook to attract customers. Police said the injection was being sold at a price of around Rs 40,000. The injection samples were sent to the local drug control facility for further testing and it was found that the vials did not contain the actual remdesivir drug. An FIR was registered against Rachit at Sector 20 police station for alleged cheating and under relevant sections of the Epidemic Act. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced a policy of ‘intolerance’ against black marketing of Kovid 19 medicines. The state government had also ensured NSA action against those accused of cheating. .
