Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a heartfelt tribute to Indian classical music legend Pandit Jasraj on his birth anniversary on January 28. Prime Minister Modi described Pandit Jasraj’s music as an embodiment of immortal energy and lauded Durga Jasraj and Pandit Sharang Dev for keeping alive the glorious legacy of the maestro. Prime Minister Modi was speaking through video conference at the launch of Pandit Jasraj Cultural Foundation.
The Prime Minister discussed the vast knowledge imparted by the saints of the Indian musical tradition. Shri Modi said that the power to feel the cosmic energy and the ability to see the music in the flow of the universe is what makes the Indian classical music tradition so extraordinary. The Prime Minister said, “Music is a medium which makes us aware of our worldly duties and it also helps us to transcend worldly attachments.”
Prime Minister Modi praised Pandit Jasraj Cultural Foundation for its goal of preserving the rich heritage of art and culture of India. He asked the Foundation to focus on two major aspects of this era of technology. Firstly he said that Indian music should make its mark in this era of globalization. He said that the experience of Yoga Day has indicated that the world has benefited from the Indian heritage and that Indian music also has the potential to delve deeper into the human mind.
He said, “Every person in the world deserves to know, learn and benefit from Indian music. It is our responsibility to take care of it.” The Prime Minister said that when the impact of technology is in every field, there should be a revolution of technology and IT in the field of music too. Create startups in India that are completely dedicated to music, based on Indian musical instruments, based on Indian musical traditions.
He also spoke about the recent efforts to revive centers of culture and art like Kashi. The Prime Minister said that today India is showing the world the way to a secure future through the belief we have about environmental protection and love for nature. In this Indian journey of development with heritage, ‘Sabka Prayas’ should be included, he said.
