The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is dedicated to the poor. In the last seven years, the Modi government has launched many policies, schemes and campaigns to make the life of the poor easier and happier. Due to this the poor are getting basic facilities like house, ration, water, gas connection, toilet, electricity, bank account. In this sequence, the Modi government has taken a big decision to build more than 1.50 crore houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin. These houses will be ready by March 2024.
On Wednesday (December 08, 2021), the Union Cabinet approved the extension of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin from March 2021 to March 2024. After the cabinet meeting, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Rural, in the year 2016, it was estimated that 2 crore 95 lakh people need pucca houses in rural areas. So far, 1 crore 67 lakh houses have been built. Approval was given to continue this scheme till 2024 for the construction of pucca houses for the remaining families.
Now the government has to construct the remaining 1 crore 55 lakh houses. 2,17,257 crore has been sanctioned for these houses. Significantly, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi took over the reins of the country for the first time in the year 2014, at that time crores of people did not have their own house. Understanding the suffering of these people, Prime Minister Modi promised to provide a house to every family of the country by the year 2022. Under this, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) was launched on November 20, 2016.
Its objective is to provide housing for all in rural areas. Modi government’s initiative under PMAYG, increased the housing construction from 20 square meters to 25 square metres. In plain areas, assistance has been increased from Rs. 70000 to Rs. 1.20 lakh. Help in hilly areas increased from Rs 75000 to Rs 1.30 lakh. A provision of Rs. 12 thousand has been made for the toilets. Under MNREGA, 90-95 days of unskilled wages were made. Connected to the facilities of piped water supply, electricity and gas connection.
