Kolkata: A team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is on a tour of the state regarding the post-poll violence in West Bengal. The NHRC team which reached Jadavpur on Tuesday to investigate the violence was attacked by some miscreants. NHRC member Atif Rashid was also abused.
NHRC members were barred from working and thrown out. An NHRC official said, “The NHRC team, which went to Jadavpur to investigate the post-poll violence, was attacked, during investigation it was found that more than 40 houses were destroyed here, we were also attacked by goons. .’ The results of the assembly elections in Bengal have been declared, since then incidents of political violence are coming to the fore.
The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been accusing each other of attacking their workers. A team of NHRC is on a tour of Bengal to investigate these allegations.
The same team of NHRC has been attacked in Jadavpur. The political temperature has gone up since the incident. BJP has questioned democracy in Bengal and TMC has accused the saffron party of doing politics. TMC MLA Madan Mitra said, ‘No officer can be attacked, why should people attack the NHRC team?’
