More than 100 patients evacuated in Kanpur LPS Institute of Cardiology

The fire broke out at the LPS Institute of Cardiology’s intensive care unit in Kanpur on Sunday morning, which eventually spread to other parts of the hospital building. Sources said that more than 100 patients were admitted to the first floor emergency ward of the hospital, considered the largest cardiology hospital in the region. Fire Department personnel took out the patients and ensured that no patients or hospital staff remained behind. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The deaths of the two elders have been confirmed, but police insisted that the deaths were not related to the fire. Kanpur Police Commissioner Aseem Arun told The Indian Express, “We have not suffered any casualties due to the fire and all have been safely evacuated.” An elderly person had already died in the fire and his body was inside the building. Another senior citizen was evacuated but died of his illness. Both these deaths are not related to fire. According to the hospital staff, Arun said, when the fire broke out, all 149 beds in the hospital were full. The evacuated patients have been shifted to Halat Hospital in Kanpur. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the incident and directed the authorities to provide immediate care to all the evacuated patients. According to a statement issued by his office, he sought a report from the district administration and directed that a high-level team comprising Principal Secretary (Medical Education), Kanpur Police Commissioner, and DG Fire, Visit the site today. Guidelines have also been issued to review the safety preparedness of hospitals in the event of a fire. .
