Cambodia’s key role in Act East policy: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Cambodia has an important role in India’s ‘Act East’ policy. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen also said that Cambodia attaches great importance to its relations with India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this in a virtual meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Pedai Techho Hun Sen on Wednesday.
The two leaders discussed all bilateral issues including trade and investment, human resource development, defense and security, development cooperation, connectivity, post-pandemic economic recovery and people-to-people contact. Both expressed satisfaction at the progress of bilateral cooperation. The two leaders took stock of the strong development partnership of the two countries. This includes capacity building programs and quick effective projects under the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation Framework.
Prime Minister Modi also mentioned the historical and civilizational links between the two countries and expressed happiness that India is cooperating in the reconstruction of Angkor Wat and Preah Vihiar temples in Cambodia. This reflects the cultural and linguistic ties between the two countries. Prime Minister Hun Sen thanked India for providing 3.25 lakh doses of the indigenous Kovishield vaccine to Cambodia under the Quad Vaccine Initiative. The two leaders congratulated each other on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Cambodia this year.
In the course of these celebrations, the Prime Minister has invited the Maharaja and Queen of Cambodia to visit India. The timing of this tour will be decided keeping in mind the convenience of both the parties. The two leaders also discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest. Prime Minister Modi congratulated Cambodia on receiving the presidency of ASEAN and assured that India will extend full support and cooperation to make Cambodia’s tenure a success.
