India-Nordic countries can achieve a lot together: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 2nd India-Nordic Summit in Copenhagen in Denmark on Wednesday. The Prime Ministers of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden and Norway also attended this summit. The summit reviewed progress in India-Nordic relations. The meeting discussed multilateral cooperation in the areas of post-pandemic economic recovery, climate change, sustainable development, innovation, digitization and green and clean development.

Prime Minister Modi said that India-Nordic countries can achieve a lot together. He invited companies from the Nordic countries to invest in the maritime economy and in particular the Sagarmala project. Prime Minister Modi said that India’s Arctic policy provides a good mechanism for expanding India-Nordic cooperation in the Arctic region. Prime Minister invited Sovereign Wealth Funds of Nordic countries to invest in the country.

The first India Nordic summit was held in Stockholm in 2018. During the conference, the participating Prime Ministers resolved to continue the process of strengthening cooperation and discussed important issues related to international peace and security.

The Nordic countries reiterated their support for India’s permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council. These countries also committed to cooperation in the areas of climate change, renewable energy, energy diversity, smart grids and energy efficiency. The leaders present at the conference recognized that the maritime economy can drive economic growth, create new jobs, improve nutrition and enhance food security.
