Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge summoned, ED questioned

Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday reached the Enforcement Directorate (ED) headquarters to record his statement in a money laundering case related to a land deal. Kharge reached the ED office around 11 am. A team of agency officials is now questioning him in connection with the matter. On behalf of the ED, he was issued summons asking him to appear for questioning. Let us inform here that Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party leader Rahul Gandhi are also accused in this case. The investigation of the National Herald case started on the complaint of Subramanian Swamy. In 2012, he filed an application in the court alleging that the Congress leaders had acquired Associated Journals Limited under the Young India Limited Company.
Their claim was that Young India Limited had wrongly acquired the properties of National Herald. It may be noted that the Associated Journals Limited Company has been publishing the National Herald newspaper. This company was established in the year 1937 by the first PM of the country, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Not only Nehru but he also added 5,000 other freedom fighters along with him. This newspaper has been the mouthpiece of the Congress party. In the year 2008, this newspaper was closed due to debt of 90 crores.
In the National Herald case, Subramanian Swamy had leveled allegations against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, late leader Motilal Vora, journalist Suman Dubey and technocrat Sam Pitroda. He alleged that it was wrongly acquired through Young India Limited. There was also an allegation that the Congress leaders also confiscated property worth up to Rs 2,000 crore through this. In the year 2014, the investigation of this case was started by the ED. At the same time, regarding this matter, the Congress says that the purpose of Young India Limited is not to earn profit, but it has been formed for charity.
