Patna. Bihar has a law against drinking and possessing liquor. Those caught under this law have been sent to jail. Now CM Nitish Kumar has taken a new decision due to the people caught in the courts under the prohibition law and the increasing number of cases. Nitish government is now going to change the law. Under this, there will be a fine instead of jail for drinking alcohol. Failure to pay the fine will only result in going to jail.

After assuming power, the Nitish government had implemented prohibition while fulfilling the election promise. Since then, cases of deaths due to spurious liquor are also happening in Bihar. The latest incident is from Nalanda district. Here, spurious liquor has killed 13 people. After this incident, BJP and RJD had raised questions on the prohibition policy of Nitish government. The Prohibition Department of Bihar has also prepared a proposal for changes in the prohibition law.

After the change in the prohibition law, the alcoholics will be produced before the magistrate and they will be released after imposing a fine. According to the new rule, strict action will continue against those who make and sell liquor. It is believed that the prohibition law will be changed in the budget session. With the new system, the cases going on in the court will also be reduced and only those who make and sell liquor will continue to be prosecuted. The amendment to the law is also expected to bring down the number of illicit liquor and spurious drinkers.

If the new system is in place, apart from the liquor mafia and smugglers, those who make poisonous liquor will be able to tighten further. Apart from this, big liquor mafia can also be punished soon. At present, about 40 percent of the cases in the court are related to the prohibition law. This also affects the hearing of larger cases. In such a situation, due to the change in the law, the trial of the case in the court will also be done faster and the guilty will also be punished. At the same time, the effect of the fine will also be that fewer prisoners will be sent to the jails and there will be no crowd there.
