Expansion of Union Cabinet? Scindia, Varun Gandhi…27 ministers in the list of probables

27 likely including Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sushil Modi, Sarbananda Sonowal, Narayan Rane and Bhupendra Yadav could be part of the massive reshuffle of the Union Cabinet.

While there is no official word on cabinet expansion or reshuffle, speculations have gathered momentum once again as Prime Minister Narendra Modi met political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). More than 27 likely including Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sushil Modi, Sarbananda Sonowal, Narayan Rane and Bhupendra Yadav could be part of the massive reshuffle of the Union Cabinet.

New ministers likely to be sworn in in the Narendra Modi government include Scindia, a former Congress veteran from Madhya Pradesh who is now in the BJP; Sushil Modi, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar; BJP’s senior organizational stalwarts are party general secretaries, Bhupendra Yadav from Rajasthan and Kailash Vijayvargiya from Madhya Pradesh, who were in charge of the BJP’s campaign in West Bengal. BJP spokesperson and minority face Syed Zafar Islam has also been tipped for the role of the central government.

Apart from former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and former Maharashtra CM Narayan Rane, Maharashtra Beed MP Pritam Munde and Gopinath Munde’s daughter are in the reshuffled list of candidates in the master list.

From Uttar Pradesh, which is headed for a ‘make or break’ election for the BJP next year, BJP UP chief Swatantra Dev Singh, of course; Pankaj Choudhary, MP from Maharajganj, Varun Gandhi and alliance partner Anupriya Patel are among the probables.

Rajya Sabha MP Anil Jain, Odisha MP, Ashwini Vaishnav and former Baijayant Panda; Former Bengal Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi is also in the list. Jain is also the President of All India Tennis Association.

There is a large party from Rajasthan, which includes former Union Minister PP Choudhary in the Modi government, Rajasthan’s youngest MP from Churu, Rahul Kaswan and Sikar MP Sumedhanand Saraswati.

The only entrant from Delhi will be New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi.

Amid significant churning in Bihar, Pashupati Paras, who rebelled against Chirag Paswan, is likely to get a central berth from the LJP, as are JD(U) nominees RCP Singh and Santosh Kumar.

Karnataka may be represented by Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar. Gujarat BJP President CR Patil is heading towards the government along with Ahmedabad West MP Kirit Solki.

From Haryana, Sirsa MP Sunita Duggal, a former income tax officer, is also among the probables. Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, who was affected by his Parliament speech, is also being considered.

The reshuffle is necessitating due to untimely deaths like Ram Vilas Paswan and Suresh Angadi and some vacancies due to the exit of Akali Dal and Shiv Sena.

Many ministers are upset with multiple departments due to death and exit. The upcoming elections in UP are a factor in the reshuffle and with the entry of a strong organizational face Bhupendra Yadav, something extra needs to be added to the government.

This will be the first such reshuffle cum expansion since PM Modi came to power in 2019.
