Discussion on bilateral and regional matters

“This is an important meeting which is expected to prepare for the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Modi and his talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said in a statement from Bangladesh Foreign Ministry.

Jaishankar has come here at the invitation of Momen. A number of bilateral and regional matters are likely to be discussed between the two leaders.

PM Modi will come on a two-day visit on 26 March

Prime Minister Modi will come here on a two-day visit on 26 March to participate in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971. Officials with information related to Jaishankar’s visit said that the Foreign Minister will also meet Prime Minister Hasina during her visit here.

Bilateral MoU will be reviewed

He told that the two foreign ministers will review the bilateral MoUs that Modi can sign during his visit. Officials said that during Modi’s visit, the Prime Minister of the two countries can give a green signal to the direct passenger train service between Dhaka and New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal.

Modi and Hasina attended a digital summit on December 17, in which they had cleared the train service between Haldibari and Chilhati. Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen had visited India in January and during this time both sides discussed in detail the program of Modi’s Bangladesh visit. In New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Wednesday that Jaishankar will review the progress of bilateral relations during his visit to Bangladesh.
