Serena Williams and her sister Venus cabinets are full of trophies. Having dominated their game for decades, the siblings have etched their names in the record books on myriad occasions. Serena and Venus, then 17 and 18, lifted their first joint trophy in the summer of 1999 at the French Open, where they triumphed over Martina Hingis and Anna Kournikova to claim the doubles prize.

As doubles partners, the siblings became victorious at Wimbledon championships, four times at the Australian Open, and twice at both the US Open and the French Open. And that’s before taking into account the three Olympic gold medals they’ve won together.

It is true that both sisters were not always on the same side of the net, and the Williams sisters’ many nail-biting face-offs over the years never failed to keep tennis fans on the edge of their seats. They each had their wins, but Serena has the more impressive of the two sisters’ stellar records, with 73 singles titles to Venus’s 49.

Off the court, the sisters are famously close, and frequently arrive at glamorous events arm-in-arm. And the Williams girls bring their A-game to evening wear just as they do their kit. To receive the President’s Award from the NAACP in 2003 – since awarded to Rihanna, Kerry Washington and Jay-Z – the athletes swapped their tennis skirts for floor-sweeping gowns.
This duo many times aced life – with rackets in hand, and without.
